Inspired by his work in the Mojave Desert and his idea of making his gallery art as large as possible. Consisting of two lines of white chalk that span 500 feet in on direction and 1000 feet in the other forming a cross that can be seen from a several thousand feet in the air.
Lightning Field; New Mexico 1977

Birthed from an afterthought. Lightning field was created based on the work "Beds of Spikes". An art project brought to life with the use of 400 twenty foot steel rods placed in a grid like pattern in the middle of New Mexico.

The attraction of electricity produced both outstanding views of lightning and a distinct look at the land.
